I'll make you be the stars

...

By T. LichtPublished about a year ago 1 min read

When I lie in bed, I make you be the shadows.

If you can’t be here in person, I’ll make you be the man in the moon.

If the darkened sky won’t let me see you tonight, I’ll make you be the stars

and the cosmos

and the galaxies

and the universe that separates us.

I’ll send you regards with a coyote's howl and a cricket's croak

and the sad sobs drifting out beneath Mom's bedroom door.

I'll see you everywhere. In the night sky. In the clouds on my pajamas.

In the trees outside my bedroom window. And the dust beneath my bed.

I'll make them all be you.

If you can't be here in person... sister.

Your poem beautifully expresses how you keep someone's presence alive. The way you capture longing and connection is truly touching. Great job!
