
When I lie in bed, I make you be the shadows.
If you can’t be here in person, I’ll make you be the man in the moon.
If the darkened sky won’t let me see you tonight, I’ll make you be the stars
and the cosmos
and the galaxies
and the universe that separates us.
I’ll send you regards with a coyote's howl and a cricket's croak
and the sad sobs drifting out beneath Mom's bedroom door.
I'll see you everywhere. In the night sky. In the clouds on my pajamas.
In the trees outside my bedroom window. And the dust beneath my bed.
I'll make them all be you.
If you can't be here in person... sister.
