In a world of color
There are some you just don’t see,
They don’t stand out around you
It’s inside we gleam.
Externally I’m just gray
A shade away from black,
Filled with love and pride
Gladly hidden in the back.
The ladder to hold you up
The umbrella in the storm,
The advocate in your corner
Always pushing for more.
Helping you find your voice
Supporting who you are,
Standing in the shadow
Yet never going far.
I’m the vast contrast
To showcase your vibrant hue,
I’ll help the world adjust to your light
But don’t let them dim you.
And if someday you find
Your color beginning to fade,
Stand next to me, your mother,
Because I’ll be the gray.
