i felt like it

the colourful embrace

By Pearl-Catherine TitaPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

my choice

to strip the pigment

from the shafts of my

onyx-kissed coiled roots;

was not because i don’t value

the beauty of my 1b crown.

1 might b mistaken

that my self-appreciation

may be lacking

in the presence of my

temporary platinum strands

because

my skin resembles coconut sugar....

but next week these strands

may resemble the hues of an orchid

because i simply

felt like it.

i may paint my lips

like a stop sign because

i felt like it.

and grace the streets of toronto

in garments that were sewn from

colours that i can’t even pronounce;

my shirt...coquelicot.

my skirt...aureolin

and nails painted the colours of spring.

a walking mosaic;

because i can

i will

and i felt like it.
