I Feel Comfort In An Innate Rhythm
For My Mother, Grandma, and Nana...and the Sands that Miss Them...

Toes digging into the warm sands
Black Earth anticipating a syncopated weight
Burning embers sprawled out and naked to an open sky
I feel comfort in an innate rhythm…
Scarlet cloth and yellow dyes
Wrapped around sun-kissed arms raised high
I hear the belts from curled high pitched tongues
Carrying the sage of wisdom and dreams
A count
1…2…3…
Embracing the sway in my hips
Their turns brush with the night air
Drums brazen with emotion in tune with the night flames
I feel comfort in an innate rhythm…
Tides laughing at a full moon
Carelessly and cautiously aware of my timing
I laugh and yell with bent knees and strong hair
Curled and tangled
Free
A crown adorned in the blues and deep earth tones full of spirit
I feel comfort in an innate rhythm…
Heart pounding
Chambers like clapped hands
Unwavering through steadied breaths
Lungs filled with tribal callings
Thighs…legs…heels
Thunder pulsates through my body
Crushing chains and weighted cries
Tears flowing around trees that stare in awe
A pirouette of joy
My lips kiss the hymns of a cadenced chorus
Muscle recalling memory passed down in a mangrove of blood
I dance…I dance…I dance…
Falling onto the broken night I close my eyes
A surrendered lover
My ears tightly embraced by a melody that transcends oceans and time
I feel warmth…I feel love…I feel reason to all stanza and tribute...
I feel comfort in an innate rhythm…
About the Creator
Lynette Sherece
I just work here…lol. No, as a child I created my own world with my pen because we didn’t have much (but we had library cards 😉). Thanks so much for letting me share what goes on in this mind of mine lol.
