I Don't Want to Forget You

A Poem about Aphantasia

By Bethy FaberPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I'm scared that I'm going to forget you

It's funny how sight works;

The physical, the mental,

The remembering, the sleeping.

I'm scared that I'm going to forget you

It's funny how physical sight works;

The brain is meant to process the light,

reflected off the objects we touch.

I'm scared that I'm going to forget you

It's funny how mental sight works;

The mind's eye is meant to create

the images we can't see in reality.

I'm scared that I'm going to forget you

It's funny how the remembering sight works;

The mind's eye is meant to reproduce

images from what we once saw before.

I'm scared that I'm going to forget you

It's funny how sleeping sight works;

The brain is meant to process

Scenes and thoughts from previous days.

I'm scared that I'm going to forget you

It's funny how when we lack a physical sight,

the mental vision and therefore the remembering ability;

The only place I'll get to see you is in my dreams

And it's funny how that's not guaranteed

So I'm sure you can see

Why I'm scared that one day I'm going to forget you.
