I don’t deserve you
Father ~Thank you for reminding me that I must support others more than I wish to be supported. ~
I don’t deserve you showing me your ways, the way you enter me and guide me to green pastures.
The way you want good for me and not evil.
I don’t deserve knowing what love is, and what it can be.
I don’t deserve you teaching me how to get down on my knees.
When I give my husband less than the respect that he needs, thank you for showing me that this is his greater need. Even when he doesn’t deserve it, it’s not about me, but it’s about you and your grace and mercy.
I don’t deserve the love I have for your creation, the way I want to hug a total stranger.
The way I want to welcome them into my home, and show them what treasures I’ve found.
I don’t deserve wanting to share you with them.
Oh holy father I am filled with you when I am filled with love.
What manner of life is this?
When I can look up on a flower and feel your tender kiss
When I can smile when I see another smile
What manner of life is this?
When I can laugh at the sound of my neighbours laugh
What manner of man are you to love me more than I thought was true?
What wisdom you teach, telling me that I must not judge until I can hold true to never do the things I judge others for.
Thank you for bringing me to my knees, whenever I show anything less than love and peace.
Thank you for judging me whenever I wish to praise myself more than I work hard to reflect you back to others, through…
Thanking you for reminding me that I must support others more than I wish to be supported.

Your composition beautifully expresses the depth of love and relationships. It reminds us that love is not just an exchange of emotions, but a journey that involves understanding, support, and continuous dialogue. Your advice is wonderful—before judging others, we should understand our limitations and shortcomings. The truth of love emerges when we openly accept ourselves and show empathy towards others.
A prayer for all, this is very heartfelt and honest
Beautiful prayer.
Whoaaa, this is some powerful stuff! Loved your poem!
This was beautiful, felt very stilling and self reflective! Great work Caitlin!
I invite you to read my three poems in the sensational II contest.
This is wonderful! Thanks for sharing your heart with us with this.
I appreciated the plea and self reflection in this to be more mindful, yet don't forget to love yourself despite your own perceived shortcomings. Hugs for this beautiful piece :)
This is a great prayer. The Lord God is always there for you. Great work.
Some of your lines felt very Franciscan. Especially your last line and the one about the flower. The sense of purposed, sacrificial love for creation. Good stuff
The spirit of Christ is gentle and the love of Christ makes us worthy. Your poetry as with all your writing is beautiful, but your harshness toward yourself distresses me. We are a new creation, forgiven and empowered for good.
I cannot fully relate as I’m not religious, but this poem is a great lesson in humility, especially for someone who is fully devoted like a nun.
Having compassion for others and ourselves is such an important lesson. He sees us as his children, and we have to understand that only by his grace we can survive. We all deserve a place in the sun.
Maybe meeting yourself halfway is a better route. Sharing time between both can be another way. An idea,
