I Died Last Night
in arms bereft of bloom

I died last night in the darkened gloom.
I died in arms bereft of bloom.
Tears I’ve shed for lost branches’ warmth,
Yearning more than the memories formed.
And when my heart could cry no more
I, without pause, approached death’s door.
Drawn toward the reaper’s call,
Upon his mercy, I did fall.
I begged to take away the pain.
I died, but then I lived again.
I cried as Sun birthed the new day.
It shone in an unusual way,
When a wayward tear escaped my eye
And hung on my lashes for the breadth of a sigh.
In a microsecond, a macro view,
A monumental vision of hopeful truth.
The world, still breathing the icy air,
It seemed to smile, without a care.
Its soul did shine on the slow-warming day.
It shone with purpose, as if to say
That even through the blackest night,
And even through the harshest fight,
Even when we’ve died in gloom,
In long-lost arms bereft of bloom,
The morning sun will rise once more,
The frost will melt, the soul will soar.
And in the heart a song will play,
A song to welcome the unblemished day.
A song to set the mind at peace,
A song, for darkness to release.
I died last night in an unusual way.
I died, and yet I live today.
And if come night, death finds me then,
Come morning, I shall live again.

A well-wrought and well-deserved top story, Cathy. I wouldn't have been surprised to find this in a classic poetry collection!
A battle cry if ever there was one. Never give up, never say die.

This was hauntingly beautiful. A quiet journey through sorrow and rebirth—told with such grace. Thank you for reminding us that even after the darkest nights, the sun still dares to rise. 🌅🖤
