I Danced With My Husband
Just two steps, but hopefully, forward
It was a moment
I didn't want to miss.
You had just finished showering.
But when you came down to the living room,
You saw me reading.
Your love for watching television
Far exceeds your love for me.
Here we go...
I thought you would just switch on some movie,
Raise the volume,
Ignore the fact that I was reading.
But I could see you paying attention.
Instead,
You looked for an instrumental music video
Switching between piano music
To Kenny G.
I looked up from my book
Because I noticed your effort
I was grateful.
In that split second, I realised
We have never danced together.
I put my book down,
Your eyes were closed.
I tapped you on the arm
And told you to get up.
WHY? I'm so comfortable!
Get up, I said!
I put my arm around you
And you laughed.
We laughed
Because we realised...
We don't know how to slow dance!
We tried for a good 30 seconds...
We managed to get in the rhythm.
But couldn't stop laughing.
We let go of each other and
Went back to do our own thing.
It didn't last long,
2 minutes, maybe?
But it's fleeting moments like these with you
That make me want to stay
Stay longer
In hopes that these moments
Stretch out
For the rest of my life.
