A joyful heart is all I want

To see the world differently, to see what it is not

I pray to God every night

That I no longer will be abused by you

That your hate and torment will have no wrath

That I can break the chains that hold me back

letting my feet run, leap and bound

I choose joy over you, hands down

So take your opinion, your words, and hate-filled spew

Unleash them on someone who cares and tries to love you

Because it won’t be me, I tried to do that

Always berated or getting my hand slapped
