I Can’t...I Can
By
Curtiss L. Hayes, Jr.
I can’t walk, master took feet so I could not flee
I can’t feel, going numb from hanging on this tree
I can’t see, pepper spray, stings like a bee
I can’t breathe, the cops, they’re choking me
I can’t talk, the courts won’t let me speak free
But
I can pray on my knees alone everyday
I can tell people there’s a better way
I can be an example as I pass this way
I can encourage you not to sway
I can speak this truth; one day the evil will pay
