What’s Yours?

One Thing

By

Curtiss L. Hayes, Jr.

A great philosopher said, ‘one thing, just one thing

That’s what life’s about, everything else is nothing’

It was Curly from the renown movie ‘City Slickers’

Figure out your thing while I break out my Snickers

I bet it’s your parents who did all they could

To put you in a position so that you would

Be a success no matter where you landed

Helped you out whenever you were empty-handed

Or maybe your siblings who you hated some days

Miss them so much since you went separate ways

You don’t miss the water till the well runs dry

Just thinking of them is enough to make you cry

Perhaps your spouse, yea, that guy over there

You love him, I know, he keeps his butt in that chair

But he loves you and the kids and he is faithful

Seems like enough for you to at least be thankful

Could be your children, precocious little devils

Didn’t know precocious had so many different levels?

But you love them, wouldn’t trade them if you could

Going deaf? I SAID, ‘WOULDN’T TRADE..you would?

This could drive you mad then, I’d bet a million to one

If I would dare to mention any step-children

Well, that ended up being a slippery, downward slope

Let’s climb back up, somebody throw me a rope

Grandparents, who doesn’t love them to death

They love you and spoil you till their last breath

Say you haven’t seen gramps and grams since 2003

Come on lady, you’re really killing me

Well, maybe Curly was wrong and there’s not one thing

At least in your case, unless it’s the bling

For a lot of folks, the most important thing is money

Is that what you would trade your kids for, honey?
