I Believe in Love at First Sight
Do you?
I always believed in love at first sight.
The sight of the first drops of rain marking the beginning of the Mumbai monsoon;
The sight of my next door neighbour's puppy jumping all over me;
The sight of the sun breaking over cotton candy skies;
The sight of my favourite celebrity crush's selfie first thing in the morning;
The sight of a cancelled work meeting email and a fresh mug of coffee right after waking up.
But I realised none of that was love, not really, when I saw him.
Its not like in the movies you know, you don't see things in slow motion.
Instead, the moment's gone too soon and you try and hold onto it, one last glance;
One last glance at the nearly invisible scar by the pillowy lip;
One last glance at the way one eyebrow is always raised in quiet amusement;
One last glance at the dimple flashing in and out of his left cheek, the way he pushes his floppy hair out of his face, the mischief in the tinted eyes, the regal air in his walk and the disarming charm of his being.
And you're left with the confusing mix of utter disbelief that it is possible to fall this hard in a matter of seconds, and the elation that this is it.
That it is possible,this love at first sight from across a crowded room, this uncontestable, absolute feeling of being home.
