I arch my back

poem

By Alice Canestraro Published 5 years ago 1 min read
longing for life, facing death, self-portrait

I arch my back and neck and eyes,

I stretch my bones and lashes long

and wonder WONDER

how that rainbow STAR in skies so cloudy

could emanate such rays!

El arco iris hums bright bands

red love and blood,

orange avarice,

yellow jaundice,

green jealousy,

blue honesty,

and purplest passion!

Full-whispering, I stretch to touch

by fingertip or tongue-tip rough

against that starry bend of black.

I stretch my eyes to see her fly

far FAR through the universe,

the multi-colored multi-verse,

seeming round & round clear blue MomsEarth

when there I see, so close to me,

the star STAR lay in the green, green grass

of my own place ‘round my own heart!
