I

I don’t think happiness is meant for me in this life

There are fleeting moments of a feeling

Something like peace

A second of contentment

The leaves dancing on their branches to the soft melody of the breeze

Lifting their faces for the long caress of the sun

But like the hummingbird floating from flower to flower

Chasing the sweetness of nectar

The moment has sped off to the ether

Before my fingers can feel it

II

When the storm rolls over the horizon

The dark clouds creeping into my skin

My soul pulls in the thunder, I bite out lightning

This is where I feel at home

Among the darkness and rage

My blood pounds out rain

The winds howl through marrow

My eyes flash in the violence

Betraying the stillness of my hands

Only one field will burn

The one I planted myself

fact or fiction
