I Am Waiting for Your Last Breath

"A Poem for the Dying Light"

By Israr khanPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

I am waiting for your last breath,
Where silence hangs and shadows rest.
Each tick of time, a final plea,
A whisper lost beneath the sea.

Your eyes, once stars, now barely gleam,
Caught in the blur of some old dream.
Your chest, it rises, soft and slow—
A tide that knows it’s time to go.

I speak, but words just fall away,
Like leaves that drift in cold decay.
I begged the night to turn to light,
But dawn won’t come to end this fight.

Still here I sit, and still you lie,
Between the world and one last sigh.
If love could hold you, hold you tight,
You'd never fade into the night.

But breath by breath, you slip from me,
A ghost upon a breaking sea.
And I, still chained to what we were,
Am waiting, lost inside your blur.
