I Am

A poem

You stitched me out of comments that you tossed around for fun,

Now I'm a patchwork menace who doesn't give a damn.

You said I’m unforgiving, so I keep score one by one,

I am what you say I am.

You shaped me out of insults, every lie and every poke,

then acted so surprised when all that teasing finally swam.

You said I’m sassy, now my comebacks hit like candy-coated smoke,

I am what you say I am.

You said that I'm too sensitive, that I never just comply,

So, I doubled every trait you named and multiplied the slam.

You wanted just a hint. A bite. Instead, you got the whole supply,

I am what you say I am.

You hammered all my edges, made them sharper than you meant,

Then flinched when I grew teeth, a glitch in the program.

You said I’m toxic, so I seep into every space you tried to dent,

I am what you say I am.

You built yourself a monster with your labels and your tone,

And now it walks in daylight with a perfect, wicked glam.

You said I’ve got an attitude. Now I claim it as my own,

I am what you say I am.
