Born of privilege, the golden son of a Queen and King
His precious birth inspired the laconic Spartans to sing
A charismatic youth who lived a life of royal state
His being gave many the cause to celebrate
So captivating that he had the people’s love
Eventually drawing the eye from Mt Olympia above

The golden-haired god of beauty fondly took him as a lover
Together, they trod daily in peaceful fields of clover
Ignoring all others, only each other's company they sought
The prince, learning all that the god of light taught
Never suspecting their bond could bring misfortune
The two swains continued dancing to love's enchanting tune
The favored prince’s stunning looks shown
The spring’s messenger coveted him for his own
The wind god looked for a way to entice the man away
He offered his best treasures and boons, hoping to sway
But none of the west wind's beguilements enticed the mortal
Which ended up angering the winged immortal
Human and sunny Olympian continue their romance
Playing in a river meadow, the tow lovers prance
Tossing a discus in a playful game of catch between the two
When in a jealous fit of rage, the jilted god blew
Sending youthful god’s aim off, striking his beau in the head
The Spartan’s golden prince fell to the ground, dead

The West Wind quickly went on his way, going back to whichever wife
Apollo fell to his knees, embracing Hyacinthus, trying to return his life
Mourning the sudden loss of his lover and his friend
The god of healing, unable to heal, didn’t want his friend’s life to end
Flowers replacing where Sparta’s youthful prince lay
Unable to live without his love, the bereft god eternalized him to this day

Beautiful
Well-wrought! Especially the final stanza! I love the scent of hyacinth, so pungently sweet it bewilders the mind and intoxicates the soul.

Great poetic narrative of Hyacinth's story, Sharon. Are you an Illyad and the Odyssey fan?
