Hurt by Your Thorns

A red rose a lovers gift that grew dangerous thorns

Hurt by Your Thorns

I held the red rose in my hand

its beauty caught me I could not stand

the petals soft like whispered lies

but thorns tore deep beneath my eyes

You gave it to me with a smile

I thought your love would last a while

each prick a reminder sharp and true

the pain was always meant for me from you.

I bled in silence no one knew

the rose, the gift, it pierced me through

its color bright but cruel heart

a living wound from the very start

I dropped it there upon the floor

never again to love you more

its scent still lingers in my chest

a bitter echo never rest

The red rose lies beside me now

its thorns still biting like your vow

I loved the gift I should not keep

its beauty lies in pain too deep

What a beautiful and sorrowful poem that makes one think of what really went wrong in the relationship. Good job.
