Human Spirit

No gene encodes it

I don’t know if I should say it,

For it is you who have always doubted me.

I know you are not going to like it,

But it makes me want to succeed more.

I may have always had to suffocate to fit in,

Yet in reality I am flesh and blood,

Just a mere sequence of DNA.

But there is no gene for the human spirit.

I will stand and fight,

Because I know that it is right,

Push myself to higher limits,

Maybe even your doubts eliminate.

I am the master of my fate,

No matter what others dictate,

I know that pain will never last,

It is something that can be left in the past.

You can be sure I will put in my all to achieve,

After all it is our efforts praise we receive,

Sometimes we just need hope and a chance,

For that is what lets us wield the proverbial lance.
