HUMAN

For Lonzo Ward's No Bullying Challenge

How much do you think you know from surface-level disturbances? Surely you can't understand an image when it is distorted by the ripples cast by too eager hands. Sometimes those little waves turn into tsunamis, and then everyone is drowning in half-truths.

Understand that one word can do more damage than a bullet if given enough fuel. It might seem impossible as you think that makes them weak, but wounds are so much more about their impact than their scar.

Married to a singular belief, your passions can become toxic without that understanding; that willingness to go barefoot in the jungle when all you want to see is a clean, paved road. Reality is rarely black and white. What you see is just that - an observation, an opinion.

Avarice breeds greed and superiority where there need not be any. Walk alongside rather than above. Sure, the view up there may be nice, but it's quite lonely when no one wants to share it with you. That sense of height can leave one dizzy, gasping for oxygen in the stratosphere.

Never disregard emotions, for they are what make us. Without the heart, we are just the mind - ever calculating upon our instincts. Without the mind...well, at least I can still call you HUMAN.

Author's Note:

Bullying will never be okay. Take time to listen and be kind. Don't judge a book by its cover.

When you find the weeds in your garden, don't water them. Pull them up from their roots, and don't pay them any more mind.

Oh but sometimes the weeds are so lovely to look at. Sometimes you keep them even though they choke the real flowers. I love your use of similes and descriptive phrases. Very nicely done.

  • Reality is rarely black and white. More people have to realise this. Loved your poem!

Sometimes I wish I were just a mind x Beautifully done and such heartfelt sentiment 🤍 Words and actions have so much potential for impact negative and positive, if only the world would take more care to care x

They also remind us of the power of words. Words can hurt just as much as bullets, if not more so. When we are quick to judge or criticize others, we should remember that our words can have a lasting impact.
