Hugs For Carrots
A Memorable Breakfast with the Most Charming Little Con Artists
“BRING! BRING! BRING!”
“I’m up! I’m up!” Stretching, I turned off the alarm. Like a spring, I bounced out of bed and into my slippers. After spending a good 10 minutes stretching, I made my bed and got ready for the day. Opening my closet, I picked out a white top, blue bottoms, and an orange-peach checkered sweater—it was chilly inside.
After combing my hair, I tied it into a wavy half-updo. Applying basic skincare, I headed to the kitchen, where I made seasoned avocado toast and Arabian berry extract tea. Taking it to the table, I enjoyed my breakfast in the quiet of the morning. My only company was the gentle breeze drifting through the open window.
The view was great, the solitude was appreciated, and the meal was delicious—overall, the moment had a wonderful ambiance. With breakfast finished and the kitchen spotless, I grabbed a BBQ-flavored hummus cup from the fridge and a bag of baby carrots before heading to the living room.
I went straight to the bookshelf and picked out a book, making a mental note to buy some new ones soon. With the book in one hand and snacks in the other, I stepped into my backyard garden.
My hands full, I lightly kicked the door open and stepped outside. Immediately, I was enveloped in the warmth of the sun—not blazing, not scorching, but like a mother’s hug: warm, cozy, and comforting.
Sitting on the grass, I opened the book and began reading. I was on the last page when I heard the pitter-patter of tiny feet. Looking up, I glanced around but saw nothing.
Returning to my book, I let the words fill my mind. Once finished, I stretched my arms overhead—only to be greeted by an adorable sight.
Two bunnies sat on either side of me, their wide, twinkling eyes fixed on the baby carrots. Their snow-white coats glistened in the sunlight. They seemed to be deciding whether to perform acrobatic jumps to steal a carrot or simply beg for one.
Closing the book, I set it aside and scooped one up for a hug. So fluffy! By then, another bunny had cautiously approached, waiting by my feet, its tiny eyes locked onto the carrots.
Oh, these clever little creatures! After getting a hug, they snatched a carrot and hopped away. They were charging me carrots for cuddles! Whoever said animals aren’t intelligent needs to do more research…
That’s how I spent the rest of my morning—in the delightful company of the bunny family. It was a freaking great experience, and it absolutely made my day.

The alarm rang loud, I groaned, ‘No way!’
But sunshine kissed my sleepy day.
The sun stretched golden, soft, and sweet,
As I sat down with toast to eat.
A book, a breeze—life felt just right,
Till the floofy thieves came to beg a bite!
With twinkling eyes and coats of snow,
They hopped in - unseen!
'A carrot, please?’ their eyes implored,
So soft and sweet (but shrewd, ignored).
A hug, a snack—their clever trade—
The cutest deal the world has made!"

This was an utterly charming! Honestly, I would've handed over the whole bag of carrots too. Who could resist those tiny faces? ✨
Your writing has a wonderful ambience to it; It really comes through with your words. I love the story, I love the poem, and I love the comic strip. 💛 Feels like I've been missing out by not reading these!
