How To Make It Out Alive:
Step 1: You can still love him. You can love him your whole life long. But you cannot sleep in the mouth of a lion.
Step 2: Leave. Pack as soon as you have the courage. Don’t wait for it to pass, it may never come again.
Step 3: Remember when you watched that nature documentary and the Lion had to eat the gazelle anyway?
Step 4: Take everything you need. You cannot come back. Take no excuses or belongings of his.
Step 5: Lions live inside of pride for a reason.
Step 6: Go to your mother’s. Your sister’s. Your cousin’s. They will hold your heart till you can open your chest wide enough to fit it back inside.
Step 7: Remember: even a Lion is afraid in a den full of Daniels.

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
