How to Catch a Snake

Not that we get many in Wigan only the two legged ones

How to Catch a Snake

If you spot a snake slithering near,

Stay calm and quiet; don’t show fear.

Look for a stick, long and straight,

To gently nudge; don’t hesitate.

It’s awake and alert, so give it space,

Watch how it moves; study its grace.

Use a box, wide and deep,

To catch the snake as it slithers and sweeps.

Approach with care; make no sound,

Slide the box gently down to the ground.

When it slithers in, be quick and slick,

Cover it softly with a smooth little flick.

Now take it away to a safe place,

Where it can wander, stretch, and race.

Remember, dear friend, with snakes it’s true,

Respect their wildness; they’re part of nature too!

What an instructional poem. I remember doing all that you wrote when I got a stick and led it to the edge and pushed it in the river. Thought the snake was a stick at first.
