How Not to Take Kids Fishing

Day fishing that ended at 11…at night.

With rubber boots up to their knees,

The small boat came down the pier;

Life vests only let out their glee,

Like the worms they pretended to put in their ear.

Dad motored them out and did promise

Home before dark so they could shower.

First, though, minnows needed to be enticed;

A calming trick, patient, then a tug with power.

Easy bait for something huge -

Now the size of the boat was in question.

But the net o’er the side held our deluge.

Many hours passed after sandwiches were eaten.

A light shone on us and quickly towed us in,

And wailing women greeted this parenting sin.
