How Can There Be Moonlight?

Without the Sun

By alexandra armstrongPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

I have come to understand

how the sun and the moon feel.

He is the sun,

The definition of summer,

The reason why everything lives.

He brings about a warmth

From his fiery surface

That makes flowers thrive underneath him

In millions of shades of blues and purples.

He’s the reason why people can see beauty

In the colors of the rainbow

After a rainstorm

Or

The beauty in the leaves

As they change from a light green

To the kind of orange that would only be seen

In a sunset.

I am the moon,

The definition of winter,

The reason why most life ceases.

I bring about cold chills that go up the spine,

That shrivels up flowers into nothing.

I am nothing.

I am why people

Are afraid of the darkness

That surrounds me,

Because there is no light.

But without the sun,

How can there be moonlight?

You’re the reason why everyone on earth

Looks up at the sky late at night.

They bask in the light of the moon

That will never be as bright as you,

And everyone gazes at the stars that surround me

When you are the only star I want near me,

Because we are together

But never at once.

I have come to understand

how the sun and the moon feel.

The moon needs the sun

In order to feel beautiful,

In order to feel loved.

The sun

Shines light on everything beautiful

And is in love with the moon,

But the sun and the moon

They’ll never be.

And without you in my life

How will I fall in love with something like the moonlight

Just like you have fallen in love with me?
