Home Is Best
A Place That Starts And Ends With Love

Home Is Best
Once there was a time I was lost and afraid
Sitting in the darkness I was waiting to be saved
No one to turn to
No one to hear
Deep in the woods I was filled with fear
I closed my eyes and hummed a song
In my mind I imagined I was home
My mother’s ring reflects off the light as she reads to me night
Her voice calms me to sleep
Safe and secure I know I’ll be
Smell of bacon in the morning time
Makes me want to rise and shine
Brothers and sister love to tease
But in my heart I know that they love me
I love Saturday’s in the fall
How we all gather together to watch Ole Miss football
Mama cooks a roast every Sunday
Can’t wait to leave church just to get a taste
During the night if I’m awakened it can always be said
My dog will be sleeping at the foot of my bed
Now I’m lost and alone because I ran away
With my dad gone to heaven I did not want to stay
If only I had realized how much it means to still have love
To know that I am accepted and will always be enough
I dropped my head and started to pray
Please God...don’t let me die this way
I felt faint and dizzy, my head was spinning much
When all of the sudden I felt another’s touch
The wind stood still and the sky became light
Then I turned to see a man in sight
His arms surrounded me as he lifted me up
It wasn’t even a moment before I knew who he was
The last time I saw him he died in my arms
Oh how that day left a pain in my heart
Now he returns when I’m in distress
To be the hero that saves me
A father who knows best
He carried me gently all the way home
and when I turned to thank him my dear dad was gone
I look to the sky to find a rainbow had emerged
In the clouds behind it, something beautiful occurred
An angel was flying while leading the way
my daddy was following as he turned to wave
The clouds slowly parted and their presence became less
As I watched the spirit of a hero heading home to rest
