Hojicha is a green tea that
Isn’t necessarily green
Like many teas it’s origins
Lays in an ancient capital city
To this day, it’s methods
Are still practised daily
Hojicha making is a common
Morning ritual in Asia
How beautiful it is
That medieval beverages
Still walk their way
Into the modern life
Common leaves roasted in porcelain
Above a charcoal haze
Stripped of catechins
The roasting flavour pours
Into the leaves
As it gains an autumn tan
Adored for their gorgeous mildness
They're treated to all ages
Served after an evening meal
Or before the lights go out
Highly loyal to all tongues
