The Greatest Sin--

What if after a celebration or a festival, a spirit were to steal after you into the depths of your solitary soul and whisper to you:

"This persona that you assume and have assumed, you will have to assume for the rest of your days; and you will be nothing more than what you choose to show the world.

And when the world looks at you, all your imperfections will have vanished into obscurity so that every failure and every sorrow, every embarrassment and every heartbreak, and every single defect you hide from the world, no matter how big or small, will be lost forever.

Even your deepest scars and your moonlit blemishes, and even this darkest piece of yourself filled with secrets we view together now will be abandoned to absolute oblivion.

The flawless mask you adorn yourself with will be all that anyone ever sees and you, my perfect creation, will never be seen again!"

Would you not screech in anger and beg the spirit for all that you concealed from the world? Or would you die comfortably knowing your face and the mask were one and the same?

Hoc Divina Superbia

At first, I was afraid of who I was

Fear comes from what she says when I'm not there

and how what I am would change what he does

Is this life I am living all that fair?

Can I live authentically right now?

When should I let myself breathe in fresh air?

And exhale the past to unfurl my brow?

Is it true that I can be who I am?

When will I let the old me take a bow?

Would it be fine to stop giving a damn?

And finally, be comfortable here?

Will I be the river that breaks the dam?

Yes I will, I will stop living in fear

For I know that I deserve something more

So, I will live a life more full of cheer

I'll be brave enough to open the door,

step out into the center of the stage,

and say who I am with a prideful roar.
