Hey, C-Nineteen
Steely Dan Will Forgive Me...
Please forgive me...
Listen, I am stuck at home, right at the end of our Reading Week, marking and writing up material for my students, and thinking about the restrictions that are now lifting in relation to our beloved new paradigm.
Yes, Covid-19 has changed everything, except my sense of humour, and my rather hypersensitivity to the need for a laugh.
I am rather surprised that no one has thought of this yet, and I hope that I have not offended all of you with this...just some of you.
And I am sure Fagen and Becker would love this:
Hey Covid-Nineteen (to be sung to the tune ''Hey Nineteen'' by Steely Dan):
Way back when in 2019,
I was the hot in-class instructor.
Smart thing from Canada so young and willing.
Worked hard and then got a warning.
Where the hell am I?
Hey C-Nineteen.
(No, we can't dance together.)
We can't dance together. (But, we can talk on Zoom.)
Please put on a mask when you walk on by.

Hey C-Nineteen, that's Dr. Fauci.
He does remember the rules of social distance.
It's hard times befallen sick and stressed ones.
They may be unsanitary, but I'm just growing old.
Hey C-Nineteen.
(We got masks in common.)
We can't dance together. (But, we can talk on Zoom.)
Please take sanitizer when you step inside.
Nice.
Sure looks good.
Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm.
Stand a little further now.
The Pfizer boost,
The fine Moderna makes tonight a wonderful thing.
Say it again.
The Pfizer boost, (The Pfizer boost,)
The fine Moderna make tonight a wonderful thing.
(The fine Moderna make tonight a wonderful thing.)
No, we can't stand together.
But, we can talk Zoom.

Thank you for reading!
