Her

The oppressed woman growing up in a male dominated society.

By Rushika The PoetPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

You are her

Born in a regime

A follower

A loyal prisoner

Every piece of bread

You swallowed

You thanked him

As if it were not your birthright

The air you breathe

A gift from him

The virgin damsel

As how you should be

You rest on a pedestal

Adorned in gold and silk

Diamonds and glory

Desires tucked away neatly

Under your palate

Frowning

Frowned upon

You look prettier

When you smile

The matronly dame

Garnishing yourself

Orange and Oudh

You look in the mirror

Devoid of a face

Yearning

How you will die

Drained of all dread for

How you will die in

Someone else’s bed
