Helen of Beauty
Greek/Roman Goddess Aphrodite/Venus | Patron of love, beauty, and desires
Menelaus | King of Mycenaean (pre-Dorian) Sparta
Tyndareus | Spartan King
Helen of Sparta/Troy Lore | Most beautiful woman in the world
Gifted with beauty
But such beauty invites envy.
Cursed you are dear
When your lineage slighted a Deity.
Aphrodite Herself!
Oh, how unforgiving is she?
But no apology could amend
The vengeance she felt.
Adultery was promised
That would wreak havoc on your family tree.
Tyndareus failed to offer
And thought Love was a bother.
Blind he was to see that war
Would soon follow after.
You were still in your youth
When men preyed on you.
Crowned Queen you were in Sparta,
Wife of Menelaus,
But you were never free.
You could never be free.
Paris came along to Olympus.
His visit sealed your destiny.
Aphrodite saw this as an opportunity
And promised your love to him.
Helen of Beauty,
Your eyes were wandering.
Your soul ached with longing
Of true love you never felt.
The love that would cast you away.
The love that would send men to their early graves.
Paris convinced you to flee.
Naïve you both were!
Love should always prevail!
And indeed, Love did prevail.
Your love is what caused everyone’s demise
And your passion set the city aflame.
Your love became the catalyst of war -
The reason for war.
And Troy finally fell
into the hands of the Greeks.
Ten years of struggling
Wasted for a gift.
Let this be the story to warn you of pride and adultery.
Helen of Beauty,
Cursed by the mighty Deity of love and beauty,
Greek Deity Aphrodite.

Hi, I'm CyCy!
Thank you for reading. I truly appreciate it!
This poem, unlike the others, came as a musical score while I'm trying to go to bed last night. But you know how it goes. These musical scores never come at the times you want them to. LOL
Anyway, maybe one day, I will have enough to compile into a book.
Who is Helen of Sparta/Troy?
The lore of Helen is a mix between History and Mythology. Thus, there are many variations and interpretations of it.
I will try to be succinct since there are several factors that may have caused the Trojan War. I.e. politics, people making the wrong decisions and it turned into a domino effect, and mythology.
In one account, it was said that she was the daughter of the Greek/Roman God Zeus/Jupiter and Leda. In others, she was just a regular human who eventually became the patron of beauty.
However, the true contradiction fell on whether Helen had committed adultery that caused the decade-long war, or if she was abducted by Paris of Troy.
Her name made the first appearance in Homer's works, Iliad, but some scholars theorized that the poems were derived from Mycenaean Greece sources. During these times, it was said that the Deities were heavily involved with the mortals' affairs. Therefore, the sources often refer to the Deities.
The poem/musical score that I wrote is based on the variation where Helen "willingly" committed adultery with Paris of Troy. I said "willingly" since the adultery could be blamed on Tyndareus forgetting to make an offering to Goddess Aphrodite when he gave an offering to everyone else.
Angered by his disrespect, Aphrodite cursed his bloodline and promised that all his three daughters, Helen, Clytemnestra, and Timandra would betray their husbands.
Helen of Sparta was married to Menelaus, the King of Sparta. In this variation, Paris of Troy arrived in Sparta to claim Helen in the guise of a diplomatic mission (since Aphrodite promised Helen to him as a reward for choosing Her as the most beautiful Goddess between Her, Hera and Athena).
In Iliad, Helen consensually left the king and their daughter. Although, some sources suggested that Paris r*ped and abducted Helen instead.
When Menelaus discovered that his wife went missing, he called all her suitors to carry out their oaths. Thus, starting the Trojan War.
"Tyndareus readily agreed, and Odysseus proposed that, before the decision was made, all the suitors should swear a most solemn oath to defend the chosen husband against whoever should quarrel with him. After the suitors had sworn not to retaliate, Menelaus was chosen to be Helen's husband"
Just like all Greek mythology we have covered so far, the Trojan War had a tragic ending (depending on which side you fall on). No matter which variation you read though, Paris perished along with the citizens of Troy and Menelaus was eventually able to retrieve Helen.
Whether or not he had forgiven her was all up to interpretation.
In conclusion, getting involved with the Deities can cause your grievance, or you may receive exceptional blessings. Although in this case, the conflict goes beyond the Deities' involvement. It could be blamed on humanity's lust for power, physical desires, and pride.
Either way, proceed with caution.
P.S. Don't worry. I will always try to remind you. 🍀
