Heat Wave
Distracted by the Swelter
Dreamlike haze coats my vision with a surreal veneer,
Images distorted by waves of heat,
Smells, boiling asphalt, and dying grass fill me,
Tickling my nose and I sneeze.
Radiant incandescence, no escape, above, below, all sides too.
Amber blades, once green crunch under my step.
Can't sleep, can't work, can't think, the heat distracts,
The swelter paralyzes,
In its midst, I am ironically frozen,
On and on, day after day, hotter and hotter,
No cooling reprieve, no work getting done, just heat.

yes. I spent 8 hours in a truck with no air conditioning this past weekend. It was over 96degrees in the cab. Exactly this.
