heartbeat

a poem about unrequited love

By Stephanie HiltonPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

he said he knows the sound

of my heartbeat

like he knows his name

why, if it catches his attention,

doesn't his beat the same?

and why,

when i look into his eyes

don't i see

what i feel

is so clear in mine?

his footsteps,

while gentle,

are never in sync with mine?

and why,

when we are so young,

does it so vividly feel

like we are out of time?
