Love. Like. Lust.
All were known to me previously.
But all were earned.
Time played its due part.
Never had I believed, in love at first sight
To me it was trite
I thought it fictitious
A fairy tale made of life
However,
Time… plays more than one part.
With time: feelings can blossom, as I had learned
Time; will always teach you-
That you know nothing of this world
My lesson was swift
And my knowledge was shaken
As my eyes met yours
I was taken
Never before: had my heart been so suddenly struck.
Amongst our friends
Which brought us together
Across the ice,
In the midst of winter,
Between our sight-
Danced the snowflakes – reflecting sunlight.
It was a first of my life
It felt as if time froze-
Matching the surrounding world.
My body was numb,
As though it weren’t real.
Entranced by your surreal blue eyes-
Just like the sky,
Which were locked on mine.
A friendly pat of my shoulder
Snapped me back to life.
I averted my gaze,
Glad, that my chilled cheeks, sheltered my blush.
I shielded my eyes,
As I could not bring myself to look
The nerves inside; made me panic when caught.
Throughout the day
I was now practiced-
In stealing glances.
Your sight was addicting.
I couldn’t help but stare.
My feelings so strong,
With no time at all;
I felt them a secret-
Needing to be kept, within my heart’s walls.
I feared our friends teasing,
Or your knowledge, of something possibly fleeting.
Such uncertainty, for something so great.
My heart seized,
And my mind raced.
I wanted to reach you,
But instead, I ran.
I struggled to contain, my erupting heart.
The simplest of actions ignited a spark.
The day I met you,
The day was almost done.
My time was short.
Soon you would be gone.
I wanted to approach you-
But my legs were stuck.
As the sun set,
My time was now up.
The brightness of the day,
Had faded with your back-
Which had walked away.
The warmth so filling, had escaped me.
To make way for the cold,
Which crept into my chest.
I sighed with sadness,
As I turned to go home.
I hadn’t yet made it across the lake-
When the wind whispered my name.
Silent at first; it slowly echoed.
Turning in place,
It’s origin unknown.
I couldn’t see past the snowflakes-
Now glowing in shades of scarlet and gold,
From the lights, of the cascading sun.
Emersed in color
A shape finally found.
In the face of you – mine lit up
Never had I imagined,
You would return,
Least of all, for a reason such as me.
You had told me,
Throughout the day; we both acted and did the same.
You felt as I did.
But couldn’t bear – my going away.
In an instant: you took my heart, I took yours.
And from that day-
Our perspective on love, had forever changed.
