Heart of gold

Etch-A-Sketch

By Tressa RosePublished 4 months ago 1 min read

Scarred abandoned heart of gold
screams against echoing white walls
challenging you to show yourself
questioning why you haven't thus far

Sobs of anguish and confusion compliment
the feeling of utter hopelessness and defeat
soaking into the thick suffocating fog
the only answer, the questions themselves

Laying on the cold uncaring floor
blank space, blank state, just… blank.
Feeling a black hole starting to swell
tears fall into its vast unbecoming

As eyes close ready to fade away
small golden sparks start to dance
moving around your exhausted body
weaving intricate designs with intention

A delicate intelligence creating code
like that of an old familiar childhood toy
An Etch-a-sketch of dark memories
shaken to obliterate the path of pain

The golden sparks now a quilt of warmth
each patch holding a part of you fallen away
The lost parts, the wounded, the forever gone
now carrying the things that no longer serve

You realize without that depth of darkness
you would never have reached the brightest
and highest of the stars now integrating with self
the shimmering quilt gives a tight embrace

You understand then, your plea for light and love
was answered long ago at first spoken request
but it required purge of shadow and death of ego
When next seeking light, please read the fine print!
