On some occasions, I must say,
My heart will leave and fly away.
When mists in mournful, murky mire
Entreat to set my soul on fire;
When clouds touch ground and Earth meets Sky,
The hours linger, drifting by;
That’s where, some place across the sea,
I feel my heart go out of me.
From caged within my chest, it soars
To bluer skies and sandy shores.
The Sun shines warm and clean and bright.
Stars glint around the pale moonlight.
And on this isle of heart and soul,
I bathe in light on golden shoal,
And soak up rays of love and heat
Before I must make my retreat.
Back to the place where Sky meets Earth
On winds of Summer’s breath, I berth.
Then back into my empty chest
My heart returns to me, refreshed.
And no one near me ever knows
About the places my heart goes
When mist and gloom make dark the sky.
No one knows my heart can fly.
