Layer by layer
non-linear healing
The tears come
like an onion unpeeling
The things I once brushed aside
or buried deep, I can no longer hide
For the memories are stored in my cells
and they keep me from being well
When the shame rises up
my jaw closes tight
My throat aches
shadows overtake my light
Staying with these feelings
instead of running away
Actually softens the pain
and makes it easier to say
I love you
and
Everything
is truly okay
