He Wore His Battle Scarred And War Torn Soul With Pride

As he rose from the blood soaked battleground

He suffered in silence throughout the years

His war torn mind fuelled by his suffering,

Battled scarred ghosts there to remind him

Of the worst wars won by their plundering.

***

His heart turned into a barren wasteland

A casualty of the battles wearing it down,

Until it became a graveyard of lost lovers

Beaten black and blue and left to drown.

***

Life as he has known it, lies behind him

Every attempt to break him has failed,

He refused to surrender to the pressure

As his strength and courage is unveiled.

***

He was left surveying the battleground

Standing alone with his blood soaked Soul,

Smoke and red raging rivers highlighted

As all the horrific battle scars take its toll.

***

Now he wanders through the battlefield

Carrying the loss and painfully deep scars,

Standing as the man he has now become

A celestial being fallen from the stars.

***

He has survived life’s worst destruction

To find he is now ready to learn to love,

Accept and honour this new version

Stitched together from the battles above.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
