He gave up love, for God

Yet still she crossed his mind

He gave up love for God

He walked away from her soft, pleading eyes,

No more whispers, no more lies.

The weight of love, too hard to bear,

He left his heart, broken, there.

He sought the peace the church could bring,

A life devoted to a higher King.

No more longing, no more pain,

Just quiet nights and simple gain.

The robes he wore, a heavy shroud,

Yet in their folds, he found a vow:

To serve, to heal, to guide and pray,

And leave his love for yesterday.

But in the stillness, when candles gleamed,

He’d think of her, and how they dreamed.

Yet he’d bow his head, let feelings cease,

For he’d given the fight, and found his peace.

No more battles, no more cries,

He turned away with quiet eyes.

From chasing dreams, he found release,

In the quiet halls of faith’s sweet peace.

The love he lost, he let it go,

In robes of prayer, he’d come to know,

That sometimes letting go is right,

And peace can come from giving up the fight.
