hawks circling overhead

the game of life

By Erin LucasPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

What does being human feel like?

.

It feels like:

Taking off my sweaty straw hat

after a day of outside work

Feeling the vanilla-sky-time-almost-fall-breeze

caress and cool my follicles

The smell of my sweat on my hatband

as I cross the bridge of my olfactory

on my journey to the table

.

It’s the feeling of gratitude for that experience

and the feeling of the pen

in my hand on this paper

as I explain my gratitude

My Existence

.

The sweet taste of recognition

of life force salivating for more

The sight of a new future

of balance, love, abundance

unfolding in real time

The symphony of wind and leaves

gesturing in a new season

They greet your ears with the victory

and applause of harvest

.

It feels like a beautiful thing

trite in articulation

but beautiful all the same

.

Like realizing the “hawks” are swarming

because the giant dragonflies are

what they want to eat

The dragonflies — however

want to eat the mosquitos

.

And I’m sitting here

knowing it’s all going to

work out for the best

.

I’m not going to be

skeeter-bite-ridden or

shat on by a bird

.

Caw away, my loves

You are me and I am you
