I was born a have-not
Into a family of have-nots.
Preachers and teachers
Are generally low on the economic scale.
As a youngster, I longed to be a have.
Classmates would wear the latest fashion.
I would look sadly down at my home-sewn or discounted clothing.
It didn't help that I was taller than everyone.
Nothing on the rack fit right.
My hair was never styled currently.
My nails were never manicured.
*
How was I to change any of this?
How could I mask myself as a have?
I tried to fit in, to conform.
Was it fate that made me an educator?
Slowly, my view shifted.
Over time, I realized that I AM a have.
*
I have:
Love
Happiness
Freedom
Peace
Security - not wealth, but everything I need.
I've been a have all my life.
Now, I'm finally content with the kind of have I've always been.

I really like how you framed the journey from feeling like a "have-not" to discovering the deeper abundance already in your life.
I can relate not having the latest clothes in school. I could not wait to get a job in high school. My best friend and I spend our first paycheck on clothes sale downtown.
