I see it around every corner

Every decision that I make

It lingers in the corner of my eye

Keeping me awake

No one else can see it

I am completely on my own

It knows I cannot fight it

It smiles and follows me home

It comes out when the lights are off

And everyone's asleep

It taunts me in the corner

My peace of mind it keeps

It whispers in my ear at night

When I try to drift away

It stalks me in my sleep

And it haunts me in the day

I see it in the faces

Of strangers that I meet

It has the upper hand

And still it likes to cheat

I feel it touch me when I'm resting

It's cold and full of dread

If I don't find a way to fight it

It will take me from my bed
