I watch you getting older

It's true, they say time flies

Each birthday just a countdown

To our inevitable goodbyes

Eighty years is not that long

For us to share this life

For me to try to raise you

Through life and all its strife

The years have seemed to fly by

But for Time I will not mourn

For it was nearly three decades

Before you were even born

So I fear for the next fifty

That I might blink and they'll be gone

I pray that they'll go slowly

For I need them to be long

So I can watch you grow up

Sure not to miss a single thing

Make this feeling last a lifetime

It's worth the lingering

love poems
