Hassle Turned to Privilege

When a plane delay led to detour

Salmon, pasta, sandwich,

pita bread, hummus,

salad, olives, date fruits,

fresh pomegranate juice.

Delicious food?

Let me tell

the inspiring tale

of scoring this meal.

I was taking a flight,

USA to India.

The airline got a delay

in a connecting flight.

Very professional, they rerouted

all the stranded passengers,

and gave a luxury lounge,

gourmet food to choose.

I was pregnant, vulnerable

traveling alone.

The three flights became four.

rough on body, it was horror.

But I braced, reminded myself:

discomfort brings growth,

discomfort builds strength.

Let’s focus on enjoying the food.

Let’s celebrate getting to see

a new country Nepal,

may be the Himalayas.

That’s what I did

enjoyed the delicious platter,

embraced the layover.

It was sure a hassle,

but with mindset change,

turned it into a privilege.
