Harvesting
And Other Memories
charred memories fan the longing
stirred around, like lost stars, in the sky
connection and belonging
feigned affection for one, such as I
black and white best suits me
it masks the fear, behind my eyes
intentions can seem flimsy
stuck between, hello and goodbye
gathering enhanced emotions
circling what I recall
now replayed in slow motion
embellishes my protocol
introducing new strangers
sharing bloodlines and DNA
now threatens to endanger
the outline of my life's, essay
what I have clung to
the memories that hold me still
disguised as the glue
tethering lies, we sometime build
to protect the past
harboring, "once upon a time"
a stark contrast
of what I thought, was left behind
harvesting the very best
salvaging the cream of the crop
where pain once transgressed
grace, gracefully, replaced and swapped
with a bold and stubborn love
that washes clean, the blame and fault
allowing when, push comes to shove
a preserved heart in of all of us

What a poem of family love as well whether biological or adoptive if I read it right. Good job.
Those first two lines were 'stop me in my tracks' stunning!! And then the rest of the piece followed suit. What a haunting yet forgiving journey in this, loved it, my friend!
