they all hope

happy ever after exists

and they will find it

somewhere

but i wish to never hold its

porcelain fingers.

they all dream

of sunshine

and rainbows

but I wait for the rain

so that my soul

can dance

along with the drops.

i never want to be handed

a perfect bouquet of roses

i want the wind

and the wildflowers

and the waves when they roar

so i can ride them.

i hope red ribbons and neat boxes

are a wild fantasy.

because it sounds like a nightmare to me.

Every time I read your work, I feel as if I am talking to a version of me that believes in fairytales, and we love this poetry so much!

Sounds like a nightmare to me too. This was wonderful, and reminded me of my favorite Tori Amos lyrics— “Give me life Give me pain Give me myself again” We lose ourselves when we try to be some else’s happily ever after.

Very sad but also the Disney fantasy is just a fantasy, I feel. It's not really real real love. Beautiful work, as always Sara!
