Had She Only Seen The Truth

But The Mask Got In The Way

The police noted that his bright blue eyes, were now the deepest shade of black.

No matter what mask he tried to hide behind, there was no hiding that.

Sad it had to happen, zero to tragic, in about five seconds flat.

But those are the toils and trials that we risk, when we live behind a mask.

She should have seen it coming, I’ve heard some people say.

But it’s easy to mistake the signs, when people hide the games they play.

For instance, what’s the mask that you picked out and chose to wear today?

Was it to gain some favor or to chase someone away?

A mask can hide a million things.

A million sins and get aways.

But the eyes tell different stories.

And they give the mask away.

Secret lives and lies and lines get crossed.

Just so we can play it safe.

I hope one day we’ll learn our lesson, and throw all our masks away
