Guava from the Backyard

Nostalgia quenched

Guava from backyard garden @Seema

I love all kinds of fruits,

they are symbols of lush health,

full of antioxidants and dietary fibers,

mouth and gut cleansers.

But of all fruits,

my heart has a special connection

with guava.

It’s about my childhood—

a house with many guava trees,

under which I roamed,

climbed and ate like a monkey,

picked bagful to share.

It’s happy tongue, full belly,

It’s sweet nostalgia.

So, when we got a backyard space,

in foreign land, after long wait,

we planted a guava sapling—

barely three feet tall.

Now, five years later,

it’s easily 12 feet or more.

It had 30 fruits last year,

and soon it will bloom again.

I have the privilege,

of eating from it,

fruits raw and ripe,

it’s an ingredient

in my happiness recipe.
