Our mission was simple, we’re guarding a tomb
We cared little of who was inside
But failing the mission would lead to our doom
So as soldiers we’ll guard it with pride
A crucified body was laid here to rest
We’ve been ordered to stay for three days
Protecting our ground is what Romans do best
And we’ll do it in merciless ways
So we took up our stations and guarded this grave
It’s been rumored he’s some kind of king
But something was happening there at the cave
Such a strange and peculiar thing
The ground started shaking, his stone rolled away
Then what looked like an Angel appeared
He spoke to a woman who happened this way
We believe it’s what everyone feared
The Angel departed, that woman as well
Playing dead, we got up to explore
The dead man was missing, the tomb didn’t smell
And his wrappings were there on the floor
His facecloth was folded, the drama increased
What a curious sight to behold
A person was gone who was clearly deceased
It’s as though this was meant to be told
Confused and concerned we avoided our own
Tell the Jews and our blood isn’t spilled
This grave situation’s for their ears alone
If the Romans find out we’ll be killed
I soon understood what they wanted to hide
What the Pharisees surely would dread
The stone wasn’t moved to release who’s inside
But to show who they killed isn’t dead
