The parents' anguished screams tear through the hallway, reverberations of pure pain
Geysers of blood spurt from the ragged wound, a macabre Old Faithful
Pennies, dirty copper, fills my nostrils, twisting my guts
Gloved fingers slip and slide against pearly ribs, probing collapsed honeycombed lung, threading plastic through sinew
But Death claims us all, snatching the boy from me, and defeat tastes worse than any poison, forever lingering on my palate
